Copper water and it's links with health
Many people and ancient medical processes believe that copper water is highly beneficial for body. It is an emerging trend that promotes practise of storing drinking water in a copper container or copper bottle. The health benefits are widely claimed by India Ayurveda. Still, many people wonder if it’s a fact or just a myth.
For having copper water, you just have to store normal drinking water into any copper bottle or cup for more than two to three hours. Copper being a trace element for human body means that only minimal amounts of it is required by our body.
Copper has very prominent and multiple essential body functions. Some of them include energy production, connective tissues, brains, chemical messaging system. Naturally, copper is widely found in foods like shellfish, nuts, seeds, potatoes, whole grain products, dark chocolate and meat.
So here we are mentioning some of the potential health benefits of drinking copper water.
• May have antibacterial effects.
It is scientifically proven that copper have an antibacterial effect. Some of the old and current researches suggest that copper may be used as a water purification or sterilisation system. This was recommended thousands of years ago in India Ayurveda techniques.
Just simply storing drinking water in copper pot or vessel may kill harmful bacteria. Like Vibrio cholerae, Escherichia coli, Shigella flexneri. These bacteria are the one of the leading causes of diarrhoea and deaths because of diarrhoea.
• Beneficial for heart.
Some of the ancient medication procedures claim that copper water is highly beneficial for heart health.
Copper also helps in preventing high cholesterol levels this promoting good heart health.
• Other potential benefits.
There are several other benefits of using copper water that are claimed. But till now, no such scientific study or evidence prove them right. Copper water claimed to offer multiple health benefits some of them are brain health, good immune system, weight loss and anti aging effects.
But as mentioned earlier, copper is required by human body in minimal amounts. So these benefits may have moderate effects on functions of human body.
• Downsides or drawbacks of copper water.
Scientific studies claim that exposure to higher doses of copper for a longer period of time may cause toxicity which can severely affect human body and cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea.
The main reason of generating this copper toxicity is consuming stagnant water that arrives through copper pipes.
According to a report published by World Health Organisation, it is advisable to intake not more than 2 mg of copper in one litre of water. Talking about per day required amount of copper, which is not more than 10 mg per day.
