5 hormones that control your weight.

Whether one believes it or not, but human weight is largely controlled by hormones. Several scientific studies show that hormones influence your appetite and the fat you store in your body.

So here we are coming up with the five hormones that control your weight.

• Leptin.

Human fat cells produce leptin. This hormone is considered as a satiety hormone and reduces appetite to make you feel full. Basically it’s a signalling hormone and have role to communicate with hypothalamus.

Leptin hormone tells the brain that there is enough of fat storage and no more is required. This subsequently helps in preventing overeating. It’s a common observation that people who are overweight or obese usually have high levels of leptin. In fact some of the scientific researchers revealed that it can be up to four times then a normal person.

• Cortisol.

Adrenal glands present in endocrine system of human body produce cortisol hormone. Commonly it is known as stress hormone because it is mainly released when your body senses stress.

Several scientific studies just arrive to a common conclusion that women who carry excess weight around belly respond to stress with greater increase in cortisol levels. It’s a fact that chronic elevation levels of cortisol can lead to overeating and weight gain.

But The thing is, a strict diet plan can also increase cortisol levels. In fact, women who consumed a low calorie diet have higher level of cortisol, as found in studies.

• Neuropeptide Y.

Neuropeptide Y (NPY), basically is a hormone produced by cells in brain and nervous system. This hormone is stimulates appetite for carbohydrates especially. Mostly subsequent increase is observed during fasting or food deprivations.

Mostly levels of neuropeptide why are elevated during time of stress. Thus, can lead to overeating and abdominal fat gain.

For lowering down high NPY levels, it is recommended to have enough of protein, no to fast for long and have soluble fibres.

• Peptide YY.

There are several gut hormones present in human gut that control appetite. Peptide YY is another gut hormone in that category. Cells that are present in intestine and colon are responsible for proper releasing of this hormone.

This hormone is believed to play a major role in reducing food intake and decreasing the risk of obesity. Some of the common and natural strategies to increase peptide YY hormone are. Just lower down the carb intake and increase protein and fibre intake.

• Insulin.

Beta cells that are present in pancreas produce hormone called insulin. Throughout the day, beta cells secreted small amounts of insulin but this secretion increases just after the meals.

Insulin hormone allows yourself to take in blood sugar for energy and storage. That thing depends upon the requirement at the time. This hormone also meant for fat storage.

Most of the times hunger and blood sugar levels increase cause of insulin resistance. Chronic elevation in insulin levels can lead to many health problems, including obesity and metabolic syndrome.

Just to normalise your insulin levels one should follow. Reduce carbohydrate intake, avoid sugar, fill up on protein, include plenty of healthy fats and exercise regularly.
