Is rice safe for diabetic person? Let’s check what science says.

Mostly diabetic person required to be quite vigilant about his or her diet and exercise habits. They have to keep a regular check on what they eat and ensure that it do not increase sugar levels.

So it becomes quite crucial to monitor carbohydrate count and glycemic index of the food they eat. A short carelessness in diet during diabetes can cause several other health problems like cardiovascular disease, kidney damage and infections.

Several people are still confused whether to include Rice in their diabetic diet or not. Basically rice is quite high in carbohydrates an have a good glycemic index score. This make people think that they should skip it to remain healthy.

• Is rice really harmful for diabetic person?

Although there are certain risks that are linked with high amount of rice in diet. It’s a scientific fact that people who eat high amounts of white rice may reveal the increasing risks of developing type 2 diabetes. This thing clearly point towards the fact that if you are a prediabetic person then you should keep an eye over rice intake.

But don’t worry if you are the one who is already being diagnosed with diabetes. Then there are no such harm or bad effects of consuming rice in moderation. But always be responsible towards the carbohydrate count and glycemic index for the type of rice you are consuming.

Health experts and doctors advise to not to eat more than 60 grams of carbohydrate per meal for diabetic persons. But if you are the one who is quite fond of rice and it is your favourite or there are certain parts where rice is a staple food. Then you can opt for several commercially available low glycemic index score varieties of rice.

If you want to include rice in your diet, but you are a diabetic person. Then it is recommended to include Brown rice, wild rice and long grain white rice. Always try to keep aside the short grain white rice, which is quite processed.

Brown rice will provide you with more amount of fibre nutrients vitamins and less carbohydrate content then white rice.

In our country, basmati brown and wild rice have quite low and moderate glycemic index scores. They are an excellent option for you to include in diabetic diet.
